Certificate of Occupancy (CO)

Official certification that a structure meets all building codes and is legally occupiable.

A certificate issued by the municipality's building inspector declaring that the house and any improvements have been constructed in compliance with all applicable state, county, and town codes, and confirming that the homeowner has legal permission to use these improvements.
